The Importance of Asking Questions
Negra is the word people use in Cuba to refer to someone who's black. With my new hair, my natural hair, I have what's called here in Cuba, pello malo, bad hair. This doesn't feel right. When Cuba does celebrate blackness in many ways and takes pride in its mixed culture, I still love it here. But I realize now I've been ignoring certain problems,. some of the same problems that exist back in the US.
