Fittest is the wrong term, because it's merely a matter of how much you can reproduce relative to a certain environment. Fit in one environment is unfit in another. What i'm saying is that there actually is a progression towards organisms like human beings for which the environment becomes less and less relevant. We've developed functions or functionality which allows us to thrive in any environment. There's not an environment that's going to come along. That's true. But wherere you about towwrite temling about the road? Isn't the road an example, the cormic mc carthy novel and the move thatis made of it, of an environment that people cannot live in?
