The in-Group Out-Group

The brain is wired to treat someone who's different from you as either part of your in-group, a friend or an out-group or potential foe. So that person in the elevator, you may not know them, they may not be likable, they may be a threat. And so what am I going to do? I'm going to give them space and I'm not going to look at them. Without even thinking about it, you just, you separate. But if there was a friend, you probably wouldn't do that.
