By the 1880s, Irish gangs had become so notorious they achieved a kind of mythical status in the press. You could be the Babe Ruth or the Lou Gehrig of the underworld, kind of like Capone. Another gang was the daybreak boys to join them. The goofers were born in Hill's Kitchen, a burgeoning slum on Manhattan's West Side. And above these and other local gangs in the 80s, the Irish YO's reign supreme.
