As you mention, afghanistan fought three wars with the british empire. The first war was 18 39, 18 forty two, and that was an afghan victory. And it was followed by the imposition of durrand line as a 16 hundred mile frontier between british india and afghanistan. This is a really pivotal moment. They felt that as the russians were advancing, they could capture afganistanso in the first first wars. It was into imperialist rivalry the first two wars.
