The Gilded Age Dinner
A gilded age dinner could include eight or nine courses, even up to 12. The principal meat course was called a relave and you served it yourself from a waiter's offered tray. A roman punch would have been served in the middle of the meal as an iced palate cleanser between courses. We will visit some select gilded age dining at some select Gilded Age parties. And briefly, we'll take a look at private dinners in the grand restaurants that took place during this time.
