The Disillusionment of Marlon Brando
In the 1950s, he started making movies because he knew movies had the power to enact change from a social justice point of view. I think that he got that beat out of him through the cynicism of Hollywood. Not every movie he made in the 1960s was so disastrous, but none of them made money. He certainly wasn't a bankable star. People weren't going to see Marlon Brando movies as much as they had been in the previous decade. It feels as though his coolness factor had faded.
