Does Gerard Think We Can Study for Our Own Sake?
Gerard says that a basic element of the human experience is that it is impossible to separate from our experience of others. The notion of studying for its own sake has also had an important revival in the last couple of years, he says. Gerard does think that there are certain life experiences and these life experiences are mostly determined in some sense by a failure which can fundamentally liberate us from metaphysical desire.
