Eels in the Azores

Marine biologists found that mature eels heading back to spawn in the Sargasso Sea made a stopover in the Azores off the coast of Africa. Scientists dove into a frenzy of GPS tracking, sexual hormone baiting and dropping mics into the water to try and see the mating - but nothing happened. But no more. Eels are critically endangered because even though there's some success artificially rearing larvae they're not reproducing. So this is actually a serious issue for conservationists as we don't know how long it will take them to reach their spawning grounds.
