Fettlana convinced him to start working for the KGB in exchange for $50,000 worth of gold and $15,000 in cash. He also agreed to hand over classified documents to the Soviets. In 1985 he became the first FBI agent ever to be arrested for espionage. Svetlana served nine years and was deported after her release.
