The Relationship Between the Colonial and the Postcolonial Periods

The relationship between the colonial and post colonial periods can largely be understood in terms of power. A state has power in so far as it can cause others to act in accordance with its will. And this can be done by threatening harms, like a military like military tax or offering benefits such as economic goods. Both the colonial and the post colonial eras are characterized by enormous inequality. In each era, western states have utilized their superior technological and economic power to create strong militaries and great economic wealth. This enables western states to exercise power over weaker non western peoples through military threats and also through offers of economic benefit. The end of world war too marked and mark the beginning of the post colonial era.
