The Thought Experiment in Mid Life

There's a fascinating thought experiment you cite in your book, mid life. Most of us would similarly think, well, i want to have two hours of total joy this afternoon. I'd rather take less pleasure than more. That's relevant to questions about sor of how we feel about death. And maybe this is perfectly rational but it's a little odd if you imagine going into the hospital before the surgeries and you're told either four hours or six hours will happen - that can't be right.
