The whole logic of the pure blood and the Slytherin house in its particular Manifestation is that loyalty to tribe obligation to tribe comes before even your loyalty to yourself. It's partly self because so much their self identity is caught up in their idea of being pure blood wizards But it's also something a lot more sinister and dark like that the ideology of which is supremacy convinces these folks to become recklessly self sacrificial towards this really evil end.
