The Power Test
The Pros and Cons of Regional Devolution
I'm supportive of regional devolution in particular and local devolution. But I would caution against thinking because you have the same parties in both places, it's going to be smooth. If you don't have people on both sides who are dealing with it pragmatically, then it won't make progress. Even just seeing things like two child cap is appalling. Everywhere would benefit from that. It's actually a spend to save. You've got a central treasury mentality already in Rachel Reeves' team that says you cannot do it. That whole Rachel Reeves, we don't have any sort of cash to throw around, gets in the way of making structural change.
