Is There a Future for Symbolic Systems?
I think the problem with the good old fashioned AI was one, we tried to base everything on these symbols that were atomic. The real world is messy and doesn't have sharp edges. So that was a poor match. But maybe with something like deep learning, and I don't really know what the right name for it is, we could separate out those ideas. And if we could somehow learn when these strategies are applicable, rather than having the strategies be completely neutral and available everywhere.
