Did the Author Draw on Earlier Sources?
The history britanum from the ninth century is dated to 829 or 830 a d hence, about 300 years after arthur's supposed career. There are hints suggesting that nenius might have been drawing on an earlier welsh source. It seems there's a mis translation, what appears to be a mistranslation from welsh to latin. The leaders the elites of wales in the ninth century wanted to provide a christian and celtic hero to serve as a sort of symbol for the welsh resistance against mercia and english domination.
