The Importance of Self-Conscious Humility in Austerity
In recessions induced by austerity you get a surge in mental illness and you get an increase in mortality as a result of suicide. The literature I was looking at, the literature on mortality and austerity on disaster and austerity is much more complicated than I started out imagining. Ultimately this particular instance fits within the space of cases where austerity weakens infrastructure undermines our collective ability to maintain dangerous systems safely. That's where as it were then these kind of risks build up.
