Nanite is based on a Hierarchy of Obtrangle clusters. The idea for nanite was first conceived 15 years ago but it wasn't actually worked out until now. Nanite can take the software approach to rasterizing these triangles faster than the hardware Rasterizers that are used in games. It's picking not just the level of detail But also what is actually visible so it will do frustum and occlusion calling to draw just the stuff that you Can see.
