The Atlas Collaboration's New Estimate of the W Boson
The Atlas collaboration at CERN's LHC, Large Hadron Collider has reanalyzed their own boson data that they took years ago. They've improved their estimate of its mass and say that their new estimate is 16% more precise than their previous estimate. The standard model predicts a mass for the W boson at 80.357 GEV or Giga electron volts. So from 83, they measured it. Not predicted it. That's not really a huge surprise. There's nothing definitive being said here at this point. But I'll still have hope in the future that we can see some brand new physics out there," he says.
