Patricia's mother came from a different ethnic group again, the epic. She sent Patricia and her sister Rosalene to visit their father in Asaba which was just outside the newly declared state of Biafra. Initially everything seemed peaceful there but early one morning Patricia's father woke the girls to tell them that Nigerian troops were about to reach Asaba. The girls would have to try to escape west against the flow of evil refugees back to their mother and Lagos. He put them in a taxi in the care of a Yoruba woman they called Mama Johnson pretending they were her own children. We were told she is our mother for this journey and we were told she's your brother
