The idea of a reproductive justice framework emerged in the 1990s. Women of colour were pushing back against white dominated feminist movement. It was equating reproductive freedom with abortion rights, she says. But they also drew attention to forced and coerced sterilization. This is something that just hadn't been really addressed by mainstream feminists at all.
