There was like a paranoia about communist sabotage or that communists were that this is the first red scare time, so people were scared. Canada did do prohibition as well, some of the provinces, not all of them, but we legalized medicinal whiskey. So we medicinally transported a fuckload of Canadian whiskey to the U.S., and that's why Americans have a taste for Canadian whiskey.
