The Importance of Flexibility in the Workplace
Right to request flexible working was an attempt to give some ability for that to take place. Middle management found it most difficult because presence in the office was their way of judging your output rather than actually having to judge the output on its own sake. But there's a potential negative here for women I think which is that if more women use that than the men and so more of the women are not physically present in offices being seen by senior management then they will lose out, she says.
