The way that the saints live out their vocation is different. John Paul II's mother was a very stern, pious woman who famously said she'd rather see her son die than commit a single mortal sin. The Dominicans and Franciscans have had a kind of rivalry over his influence. But it's clear he loved both orders and imbibed the idealism around evangelization.
