Preserving Highland Culture and Interpretations of the Clearances

This chapter explores the efforts to preserve the highland culture, protests and violence leading to the establishment of the Napier Commission, and the historiography of the Highland Clearances, including the influence of John Preble's writings on Scottish nationalism.
