A number of Republicans ran on the issue of crime in large American cities during the midterms. New York City's mayor, a former cop, promised to put his police experience to work. Murders are actually down 13% and shootings down 15% since Erica Adams took office in January. Overall, major crimes are at a 16-year high; shoplifting has gotten so bad Rite Aid is considering putting everything behind showcases.
