The Anti-Christian Conspiracy
The rumor was that there was a conspiracy in which Jewish people were poisoning the water supplies. The Christians wanted a scapegoat and so they turned to their old favorite, claiming a widespread anti-Christian conspiracy. Thousands of Jews were tortured or burned alive,. mostly burned alive, to stop the plague or in some areas prevent it from even appearing.
