Abu Bakr's Main Thing Was to Hold the Muslim Community Together
By all accounts, Abu Bakr did not really expect for things to turn out the way they did. Things were moving very, very fast in a time when people couldn't communicate over long distances. And so him and Omar rushed to this meeting to put their two sins in, so to speak. It was fortunate that they did because the Ansars were very close to choosing their own leader.
