The Mathematics of Probability

The mathematics of probability theory aren't particularly hard, yet it took until the sixteenth century with gidano. Newton and leibnitz are devising calculus around the same time, which is wag harder. Why did it take so for the mathematics of probability to arrive in the history of human thought? Well, i mean, i can only speculate, am, but, ya, why?
