Ahazuerus's New Queen
The events of chapter two lightly open two or three years after the events of chapter one. Vashti, who was demoted from her queenly status in chapter one, now needs to be replace. And king ahaz uerus seems to be prepared to look for her replacement in rather unorthodox way. It is the king's young male attendants who first give him the suggestion. They propose a kingdom wide beauty contest to select the new queen. Perhaps this proposal has the added advantage of putting the power families in persia in their place.
