The Trade-Offs Between Freedom and Standardization in an Organization

One of the challenges I think for organizations is how much freedom do you allow teams to have in like picking the technologies they want to use? There's some nice things about having that freedom but there's some trade-offs. When everyone is using the same technology and same tools you you build, it builds "organizational wisdom" That kind of ebbs and flows as organizational growth goes from a free for all environment to one with standardization.
