The Outsider Figure

The outsider figure in American culture is perfectly organic but I think it gets more synthetic over time. The slasher genre comes out of a collapse of moral standards and so much of that genre is made by people who are really you know deeply immersed in the counterculture or hippies. West Craven's debut film which was just a ghastly piece of cinema nobody should watch, he has explicitly said that what he was trying to do because he was deliberately trying to traumatize American audiences. Even the radical Hollywood were communist right they weren't interested in selling sort of images of counter cultural rebellion and making movies that would inspire the working class to rise up red.
