Is the Right of Jealousy in Marriage a Crisis?
The right of jealousy was not inherently dangerous or painful. It involved no human judgment at all subsequent to the ordeal, but placed the judgment and punishment entirely in god's hands. In a society where that really mattered, it was a petition for immediate divine judgment which would bring matters to a head.
