Reincarnation in the Collective Unconscious
The idea of reincarnation has been a subject of fascination across human history, and its ability to generate interest shows no signs of abating. We may become obsessed with the minutiae of concepts, aspects, methods, and laws of reincarnation or karma without realizing that these two are merely metaphors for the realities that lie beyond human comprehension. As Professor Campbell notes in this lecture, these images and ideas are ways of thinking about something that transcends thought. Myth, he says, are transparencies to see through. They're only good insofar as they carry you past themselves.
