The German Government's 'Guarantee of the New Czechoslovakia'

The idea that Hitler had by 1939 bought into his own hype and believed he was incapable of making mistakes is an idea that always plays very heavily in any history of the last years before the war. It's interesting to see it laid out so clearly here in January 1939, when the overall situation in Europe was actually better than it had been in almost a year because of the Munich Agreement. In March, German actions would shatter whatever idea existed about possible peace in Europe during the first two months of the year due to their invasion of Czechoslovakia.
