The best fathering I've done as a dad of grown sons is my apologies. When I got straight up, apologized to them about the way I handled myself with them that didn't really honor them or position them as their own independent stud man. That went so well. It built so much credibility. Even some of them are going to apologize to me for stuff that I didn't expect them to just because I apologize. So it's ironic. But all the quote knowledge I have from all these years in, you know, fatherhood and marriage and family ministry, the best thing I've ever done is apologize for not doing it. Well, and talking to them too much.
As guys, we've all crossed lines that we never should have crossed and made mistakes that we wish we could go back and change. But while time machines aren't an option, we can rest in the knowledge that God provides fresh starts. Even solid believers who have walked with the Lord for years can get a much-needed second chance in Him. Author and speaker Jeff Kemp has discovered that truth firsthand, as He has learned more about what it means to be a son of the Father. His message to men is that we really can begin again if we’re willing to receive what Christ has for us and embrace the unique identity He offers.
