The Role of CRE in Academic Motivation

Facing history in ourselves is an evidence based program designed to integrate issues of race and ethnicity into regular secondary school social studies and language arts instruction. It leverages historical examples of conflict and justice and discrimination to teach tolerance, social skills, and civic responsibility. The program also targets teaching practices in classroom climate. There's some evidence that the facing history in ourselves improves students, psycho social competence, and reduces racist attitudes in fighting among white youth. In English language arts, research indicates that culturally responsive education is associated with greater motivation and creativity.
