The Negative Effects of Quarantine on Yellow Fever Epidemics in Philadelphia

When cholera first hit North America in 1832, Philadelphia fared significantly better than other American cities. And it's hard to argue that the the water works wasn't the principal reason for that because Philly had this pretty sophisticated water supply system. So I think actually quarantine deserves some of the credit for the declining frequency and severity of yellow fever epidemics in Philadelphia.
