The Pilots Attempted to Keep the Wings on Level
The plane was on a left base, which meas they were perpendicular. They had to make that turn for fina to line up to the runway. So when they began that turn for final and that's whe they began having trouble keeping the nose up and controlling the bank ankle. When they hit the ground, they crashed into a marsh at a speed of 269 knots,. about two miles short of the runway. The second impact broke the aircraft apart and crushed the cargo compartment where not many of the orphans wll be found.
