The Importance of Specific Capacity in Endurance Training

I noticed that many endurance athletes were doing far too much of this training relative to the demands of their goal event. So they're getting themselves tired from their intense training as opposed to getting themselves tired in an endurance sense. I think we quite often when we talk about specific capacity, we default towards velocity at VO2 max or these higher intensities that are easy to measure. And so we can be optimizing for the wrong metric or optimize for the wrong thing.
