A great deal of time and energy are spent on things which are non-academic subjects. What they tend to do is to try to alienate the child from the parent. The tragedy is that these kids have no conception of thinking. We live in Western civilization. That's why you ought to study it. Now if you have time left over to study other things, fine. But to talk about why do we study Western civilization rather than other civilizations, you might as well ask why do westudy at the Earth instead of other planets and other galaxies?
