Athens and the Spartans in the War of Delium
The city of Delium formerly under the control of Thebes decides to leave the Thebans and join the Delian League. This is because of Athens superior footing in the war at this point. Demosthenes therefore goes to fight the Theban for control of the city and due to the creativity of the Thebants, the Athenians actually lose. And so while Delium switching sides was a sign of Athenian dominance in the war, by failing to defend that new possession against the ThebANS, the Athenarians demonstrated weakness and it emboldened Sparta. In the meantime, Brisitis, the Spartan general, marches on Amphipolis with his Thracian allies
