They had known that nerves were fundamentally an electrical kind of thing. And for example, claude shannon had pointed out that you could use bullion algebra to think about switching circuits. That kind of fed into, well, let's try and use that kind of thing to describe the sort of electrical machine that we have, that is our brains.
