The Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg Address bears comparison to the best of Shakespeare in the Bible. Lincoln was steeped in the King James translation in the Bible, which is alternately gloriously eloquent but also incredibly pithy. The people knew from pretty much straight after the speech that this was something that enshrined the ideal of America.
