If you're approaching a stranger, you're going to get shut down. It's a actually perfectly natural thing. An authentic meeting requires a certain equality. I think it's a moment where that person, rather than feeling intimidated or off kilter by you approaching them, suddenly, no, i'm in charge. And that's why i go into interviews generally very unprepared,. which might come as a shock.
