Past simple and past perfect are also good friends. Think of them as inseparable brothers. They like to be together. Even when they're not in the same sentence, they're still thinking about each other. For example, I am so excited. I have just passed my driving test. So this means I am excited now because just now I pass my driving test - we've got present simple and present perfect tense.
