Asteroid collision will change speed of the asteroid by just a fraction, so about a millimeter per second. The idea is this little nodge a few years in advance could be enough to shift it out of our way. When will we know if this experiment is rirked? Well, it's going to be a few weeks a the neat thing about this asteroid is it's actually a twin astroid system.
