Getting to safety or getting safe technology does not require sacrificing progress. But you also mentioned a couple of instances where it might make sense to slow down the progress in certain areas. For example, how widespread is this phenomenon where we might want to slow down in order for safety to catch up? And other perhaps also technologies where we would like to institute an indefinite ban such as gain of function research.
