Last year the talaban took over kabal, and it undoubtedly is more fertile ground for alcide than it was under the gani regime. Alkaide now has an advisory role with the talabans government in kabul. It has really close ties to a group called the hakani network which is a sort of autonomous unit within the talaban. In east africa, you have al shabab, which is another alcide affiliate that controls large parts of rural samalia.
