Cardionerds: A Cardiology Podcast

CHAPTER

Va Ecmo

Despite advances in ECMO technology and clinical expertise, only 40 to 50% of patients with refractory cardiogenic shock treated with VA ECMO are alive at hospital discharge. Pre-ECMO cardiac arrest is associated with increased ECMO mortality; acute myocarditis, heart transplant, refractory ventricular tachycardia, or vibralation have relatively lower mortality rates. In 2015, the ECMO SAVE, or survival after Vinoartereal ECMO, score was published. This is a scoring system that may be useful in predicting survival for patients receiving VA ECMO.
